Post Trip Reflection

I flew with my two children, on my own, for the first time this week.  It went amazingly well, though not perfect.  When I got to the airport, I went to the check in desk and requested a pass for my husband to assist me and the kids to my gate.  The attendant misunderstood at first, but once he knew what I meant he printed a pass for my husband and was really quite helpful.

My husband got us all the way to our gate and thankfully we did not have any problems - security was fast and I got on the plane as soon as I got to my gate.  Here was the first time I was on my own.  Once down the jet way I had to get both kids out of the stroller and get them onto the plane with our bags on my own.  The flight attendants saw I had a lot and really helped out.  One attendant took all of my bags to our seats and so I just had to carry my daughter and walk with my son to our seats.

During the flight my daughter took a short nap, my son took two trips to the bathroom and a flight attendant helped by holding my daughter both times.  Then the most interesting part was near the end of the flight.  I planned to change my daughter's diaper near the end of the flight before the seat belt sign went on so I would be set to get off and get picked up without any need to stop for more changes.  As soon as I brought her to the plane bathroom we hit turbulence.  My son was standing next to me the whole time as the turbulence built to what was the worst I have ever stood through.

I finished the diaper change and as we were heading back to our seats one of the stewardesses tried to help by carrying my son to his seat.  She didn't want him to fall and get hurt.  He however, freaked out and began screaming at the top of his lungs.  It took a little while to calm him down and thankfully she wanted to help and brought him a snack bag for free to say she was sorry for upsetting him and that helped calm him down.  He was happy to eat some goldfish.  He also got "wings" out of the bag to pin to his clothes.

I did end up carrying all of my bags and my daughter off of the plane, but my stroller and her car seat were right there waiting for us.  We were even on the tarmac so my son got to be up close to the front of the plane which he really enjoyed.
