Tomorrow morning my husband will drop me off with our two kids at the airport and we will fly to see my family and go to my grandfather's funeral.
Last night I "finished" packing other than the last minute stuff that I will pack tonight and tomorrow morning (like my son's toothbrush).
Today I have been listening to songs that my Grandpa recorded. I am happy to have those. I cut my son's hair today (he does so well holding still for a two year old) and my husband's hair. I cooked lasagna for dinner plus extra so my husband has food while I am gone. It's been a busy and productive day.
Here's what I have planned: wake the kids up and keep them in the PJs. Load them into the car and head straight to the airport. I will be bringing our double stroller, a backpack to carry with as many clothes I could fit (my free personal item) a large bag with two small packed bags with more clothes to put into the stroller (my son's personal item) and a diaper bag with the pull out diaper changing pad on top (free when traveling with baby) with a huge carabiner so it can hook to the stroller handle. That's about as hands free as it gets.
If my husband is allowed by the airline/airport he will get a special pass to accompany me to the gate. If not, I'll be on my own.
Since I had to book the ticket with less than a week before my trip I took the cheapest option available which was an Allegiant flight. They are not my favorite airline, but it was better to be $79 per ticket (one way) than to pay over $200 for another airline. Still amazed there were any airlines with that price so short notice. Since I'm not bringing any carry on bags or checked bags I don't have to pay any extra fees.
For an unexpected trip, part of what is helping is that I already had a trip planned this month to visit family. I already sent a few clothes down with family who drove from our area after Thanksgiving. I already have a flight to get home since I already had a flight down (that is null now). As much as I wish I could have seen my Grandpa as originally planned or at least kept my original flight to go down for the funeral, I am glad that the timing is better than it otherwise could have been.
Singing off...my bags are packed
