Our morning started off with early rising kids, building up our wood stove fire and prepping the house for guests. Our guests arrived and we enjoyed visiting while preparing our brunch together. Almost everything was ready to start eating when a plate crashed out of a cupboard, hit our granite counter and shattered into a thousand pieces...everywhere and possibly into the eggs that had just finished cooking and were topped with cheese to melt. Those ten eggs went into the trash.
Thankfully all the kids were out of the way and stayed out of the way during clean up. My husband had a few shards in his arm to deal with, but nothing major. He was very thankful none went into his eyes. We worked with our guests to clean up and eventually sat down to eat (pancakes and lots of fruit, no eggs).
My little girl who usually falls asleep quickly for naps decided to be difficult and I had to get up twice from the table to get her settled and asleep. Needless to say, not everything went according to plan, but we still had an enjoyable morning with friends and a delicious brunch. We experienced a unique and unexpected situation and reflecting on it later I am thankful both for safety and helpful friends.
The day was also filled with packing for my trip to go to my grandfather's funeral. It will be my first ever flight on my own with two kids.
I'm feeling metaphorical. That shattered glass plate is life. Sometimes our life is shattered when something happens and we go in a thousand different directions - our minds, our hearts, our plans. Like the glass that takes awhile to sweep up, like the time it takes to get rid of all those pieces that are cluttering our space, it takes awhile to gather our thoughts and do what needs done in order to get back to a peaceful, purposeful and functional state. But it will happen.
Singing off...oh we don't know what's coming to-morrow
